The Amazing Work of Mesopotamia
Ancient Mesopotamia, the land of the first city state. The three major cities were Akkad, Assur, and Uruk. Architects have been
building for thousands of years. These are some of the great things architects have done. Three major cities were Akkad, Uruk, and
Assur. These cities do exist in current day Iran. Akkad was the biggest city out of the three. Assur was the smallest of the three. Then
Uruk was in the middle.
The reason that the ancient people built where they did is because the Fertile Crescent was there. The Fertile Crescent is a green
land by the rivers. The Fertile Crescent helped the crops to grow healthy fast. Also the tigris and the euphrates rivers were important
for water.
First the temple was made in the middle of the city. Then the upper class built their homes around them. After that the lower class
would build. Finally the farmers would build where there was room outside the walls. The temple was made of stone and clay
bricks. The upper class also used clay and stone bricks also for their houses. The lower class used mud and some clay bricks if they
had enough. Last the farmers used mud and straw for their houses. They used these materials because they were easy to find. They
could also bake the bricks in the sun. They built their houses like a box with a hole in the top. The hole in the top was to let the
sunshine in. Also the hole would let the smoke go out.
Most all the houses had a hole in the top. There was not much wood there so the houses were of made out of some sunbricks.
I learned that the mesopotamian people had there own way of life. They made a lot of inventions that we use today. All the different
classes had different materials to use. The powerful civilization of Mesopotamia.
